White Sturgeon
The White Sturgeon fishing opportunities are available year round. Although some months are better than others. January thru March tends to be a little slow due to cold water conditions and lack of fresh food in the river. As April arrives so do the Eulichans, the first feeding opportunity of the year for Sturgeon. Although the Eulichan run is disappearing, the Sturgeon still start to feed more agressively. As June and July approaches, Salmon start to enter the Fraser River, the water temperatures are rising and the Sturgeon become more active as well. Once August arrives and the Sockeye are in the river Sturgeon fishing really starts to pick up. Now we are into late August and early September, the Sturgeon fishing can be very good. The last two weeks of September thru mid to late November the Sturgeon fishing is "Out Of Control". The fall is by far the most exciting time of the year in the Fraser Valley for large Sturgeon. Hooking and enjoying the spectacular fighting abilities with aireal leaps completely out of the depths of the White Sturgeon is second to none. It is not uncommon to fight 10 - 20 Sturgeon in a single outing. Sockeye Salmon
Sockeye Salmon start to enter the Fraser River in July, with the main run of fishing showing up in early August and lasting from two - four weeks. Sockeye range from 4 - 12lbs and are referred to as the best eating Salmon. The weather is warm and the fishing can be amazing. However, the Sockeye Salmon fishery is slowing down. Please be aware that this fishery may not be available in 2008 due to changes in the Fisheries Regulations. At the time of booking your trip I will go over these changes with you. Spring Salmon ( Chinook / Kings )
Spring Salmon enter the Fraser River in mid June and continues thru October. Springs range from 15 - 50lbs. There are many different ways to fish for the beauties. Bar fishing, back trolling plugs, and bottom bouncing are the most productive. Typically the Spring Salmon that enter the river during June through August have red flesh and late August through October they have white flesh. Coho Salmon
Coho Salmon enter the river in late September with the main push of fish coming thru until mid November. Coho range from 5 - 15lbs. They are bright silver and provide aireal leaps that will make you wonder what is wrong with this fish. The most productive methods are fly fishing, casting spoons, floating bait or a bronze / silver blade under a float. Chum Salmon
Chum Salmon enter the river in late September and fishing remains extremely good until the end of November. Chum range from 10 - 25lbs and aggressively feed on a variety of baits. The most productive way to catch these toothy critters is with a custom tied jig under a float, the action can be non stop, having your float slammed under the water on consecutive casts. Nothing better than a Chum Salmon brought home for some tasty smoked salmon. Pink Salmon
Pinks Salmon enter the rivers in late August, with the peak of the run arriving in the first week of September. The Pink Salmon fishing will typically last for approximately three weeks. Pinks are the smaller of all the salmon, ranging 3 - 10lbs, but there willingness to feed on light spinning gear or a fly rod these fish will keep you entertained for as long as you can continue casting. For the experienced or novice fisherman, Pink Salmon will have you smiling all day long. Pink Salmon are only in the rivers during odd numbered years, the next season for Pinks will be 2009. |
